Getting into a prophesy-making mood, Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed his three hot favourites that he is secretly rooting for to win the 2023-24 edition of the UEFA Champions League (UCL).

Speaking at the 2023 Globe Soccer Awards ceremony Ronaldo named defending champions Manchester City, his former Spanish club Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

“Manchester City did amazing. Congratulations on their season. Finally, they won the Champions League.

“They probably deserved it two years ago. I enjoy seeing them playing and they have a good chance to win the Champions League again," he added.

Meanwhile, the Al-Nassr star has claimed that the Saudi Pro League (SPL) is already surpassing France’s Ligue 1 in terms of competitiveness.

"You want my opinion? I don't think the Saudi League is worse than French Ligue 1," he said.

"In Saudi Arabia, I find it’s more competitive, they can say what they want, it's my opinion, I play here and I know what I’m saying.

"I think now we are better than Ligue 1," he added.

Remember, Ronaldo was the top goalscorer in the world's top divisions during 2023, ending the year with 54 goals for Al Nassr and Portugal.

He beat out competition from Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe, who both got 52, while Haaland netted 50 for City and Norway.

The Globe Soccer Awards, currently being announced at a ceremony in Dubai, feature Ronaldo as a nominee in several categories.

As per Globe Soccer's official website, Ronaldo and Lionel Messi dominated the initial round of public voting for the Best Men's Player award.

Ronaldo is also listed for the Fans' Favourite Player award, and he is among the prominent names competing for the newly introduced Best Middle East Player accolade.

Despite his remarkable goal-scoring figures, the Al Nassr star did not secure a nomination for The Best FIFA Men's Player award, which Lionel Messi won earlier this week.

Additionally, Ronaldo was not nominated for the 2023 Ballon d'Or, marking the first time since 2003 that he did not make the final shortlist.

Travis Kelce's barber, Patrick Regan, gave fans glimpses into the Kansas City Chiefs star's $6 million mansion while showing off his hair-cutting skills on social media.

Kelce's go-to barber for over five years shared a photo of the athlete’s fresh cut ahead of the Missouri-based team’s game on Saturday and gave fans a look inside his new home, Page Six reported.

The pictures showed Kelce sitting in his barber’s chair which was set up near the foot of a bed in one of the home’s six bedrooms.

The room, painted grey, features a white built-in closet and grey walls and ceilings.

He seems to be frequenting his other $1 million home, where he films his “New Heights” podcast every week.

Over the weekend, he posted a selfie with Kelce's popstar girlfriend Taylor Swift on Instagram, posing in a living room with brown leather chairs, a stone fireplace, and a chunky beige throw blanket behind them.

Kelce seems to have kept the original paint colour throughout the house after snatching up the 17,000-square-foot mansion last year.

Realtor.com obtained and released original listing photos of the grand estate with a 3.5-acre lot, complete with a "Beverly Hills-style" pool area, tennis court, waterfall, and miniature golf course.

The photos also show Kelce's new dining room with white tile floors, a chandelier, and a small bar area, and his white marble kitchen with stainless steel appliances and cabinetry.

Kelce purchased the home with walk-in closets and a large bar and wine cellar for the Chiefs team, and reportedly to get some more privacy with Taylor Swift amid their whirlwind romance.

New Zealand sealed their T20 series against Pakistan with two games to spare on Wednesday on the back of a record 137 off 62 balls by opener Finn Allen at University Oval in Dunedin.

The Black Caps, sent in to bat in game three of the five-match series, won by 45 runs after posting a colossal 224 for seven and restricting Pakistan to 179 for seven.

It followed their victories by 46 and 21 runs respectively in the first two matches.

The swashbuckling Allen, following on from his 74 off 21 balls in game two, frequently belted the ball out of the ground as he smashed 16 sixes and five fours in his whirlwind innings.

The opener’s 137 is the highest score by a New Zealander in a T20 international, surpassing the previous best of 123 set by Brendon McCullum, and it equalled the world record of 16 sixes in an innings held by Afghanistan’s Hazratullah Zazai.

He dominated the bowling, taking 27 off one over by Haris Rauf with three sixes, two fours and a single.

Rauf conceded 60 off his four overs while Mohammad Nawaz gave up 44 and Shaheen Afridi 43 on a dismal day with the ball for Pakistan.

After the early dismissal of Devon Conway for seven, Allen and Tim Seifert put on 125 for the second wicket, with Seifert only contributing 31 as he opted for singles to keep the hard-hitting opener on strike.

The umpires had to call for replacement balls three times, after Allen smacked missiles out of the ground.

The opener was eventually undone in the 18th over when he was bowled by an off-cutter from Zaman Khan, who then applauded the New Zealand batsman as he left the field.

In reply, Pakistan never looked like getting close to the required 11.25 run rate.

They reached 95 for two in the 11th over, but saw a clutch of wickets derail their chase, losing four for just 39 runs.

Babar Azam top-scored with 58 off 37 deliveries while Mohammad Nawaz contributed 28 off 15 in a late cameo.

The remaining two matches are in Christchurch on Friday and Sunday.

The ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League will commence on February 17 in Lahore with the opening match between Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United, according to the tournament schedule issued on Friday.

As we gear up for this spectacular event, we look forward to witnessing thrilling action and creating unforgettable moments for cricket enthusiasts worldwide,” Ashraf said.

According to the schedule, Karachi will host 11 matches, including the qualifier, two eliminators and the final. Meanwhile, Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium and Rawalpindi’s Pindi Cricket Stadium will each host nine matches while Multan will host five matches.

“Kings, Qalandars, Sultans and United will play five matches at their home ground while Peshawar Zalmi will play four matches at the Pindi Cricket Stadium,” the PCB press release said.

It added that Quetta Gladiators will play three matches each in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi. They will play one match at the Multan Cricket Stadium against the home side Sultans on Feb 25.

As per the schedule, the tournament will take place in two legs with Multan Cricket Stadium and Gaddafi Stadium hosting 14 matches between them from Feb 17-27.

The league will then move to Pindi Cricket Stadium and National Bank Stadium, where 16 matches will be played from Feb 28-Mar 12. Afterwards, the tournament will move to Karachi in its entirety for the playoffs.

Pace bowler Adam Milne claimed four wickets as New Zealand beat Pakistan by 21 runs in the second Twenty20 international on Sunday to take a 2-0 series lead.

The Green Shirts threw away a strong position in their run chase after Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman scored half-centuries as they were dismissed for 173 in the final over, in response to New Zealand’s 194-8.

Victory came at a cost for the Black Caps, whose captain Kane Williamson retired hurt with a hamstring injury while batting, placing him in doubt for the remainder of the five-match series.

The match bore similarities to New Zealand’s 46-run win in the opening match in Auckland on Friday, with their attack taking wickets at regular intervals to deny Pakistan a foothold in their chase.

However, the target looked within sight before Fakhar was bowled by Milne for a power-packed 50 off 25 balls in the 10th over, leaving Pakistan 97-3.

The team struggled from that point, with only Babar looking a threat until he was caught off Ben Sears for 66.

Milne finished with 4-33, having earlier removed the dangerous Mohammad Rizwan as Pakistan lost both openers with just 10 runs on the board.

New Zealand were again asked to bat first and Finn Allen took on the visitors’ attack, blasting five sixes in his 74 off 41 balls to dominate the innings.

Well placed at 111 for one at the midway point, the Black Caps suffered a major setback soon afterwards when Williamson was forced to retire hurt for 26.

There will be concern it is a continuation of the spate of injuries the veteran skipper has suffered in the last year.

A long-standing knee problem ruled the 33-year-old out of both white ball series at home to Bangladesh in December.

Allen powered on in trademark big-hitting fashion before being bowled by leg-spinner Usama Mir.

New Zealand’s remaining batters struggled, with pace bowler Haris Rauf particularly adept over the closing overs, finishing with 3-38.

Spinner Mitchell Santner replaced seamer Matt Henry in New Zealand’s only change from the Auckland match, while Pakistan fielded the same team.

CAIRO: The Kuwaiti national soccer team is set to face the Libyan national team in a friendly match at Cairo International Stadium today at 6:00 pm as part of its training camp in Egypt.

Kuwait conducted two training sessions in Cairo in preparation for the match against the Libya. Additionally, a second match is scheduled against Uganda on January 19.

In another development, the Libyan Al-Jamahir newspaper disclosed that “Kuwait covered the expenses of the Libyan national team in Egypt, causing discontent among many.”

Meanwhile, Emilio Peixe, the Portuguese coach of the Kuwaiti Olympic team, has called up five players during the team’s training camp in Thailand. The summoned players include Saleh Al-Mahtab, Omar Al-Salim, Jarrah Al-Hilali (Kazima), Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi (Salmiya), and Talal Al-Hajraf (Jahra).

AUCKLAND: Pakistan batter Fakhar Zaman has suggested that resting the side’s regular T20 openers Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam will help the side test new players and prepare back-up for the future.

The duo’s position at the top of the order is a matter of debate since the past few months, among not only fans but in the national side’s team management circles as well.

With a number of impressive top-order batters coming through Pakistan’s domestic cricket system, Babar and Rizwan — who have partnered each other for more than 2700 runs in 56 T20Is after being — have their places under scrutiny.

The pair might be separated to test the likes of Saim Ayub, Sahibzada Farhan and even Fakhar — originally an opener who had been coming down at number four in T20Is to accommodate Rizwan and Babar — at the top of the batting line-up in Pakistan’s five-match series against New Zealand, which starts on Friday.

While Pakistan chief selector Wahab Riaz — who included a number of new faces in the Pakistan squad for the away series — had already hinted at resting regular players to give playing time to the less experienced ones, Fakhar reiterated his stance on Wednesday.

“It’s not very easy to replace players like Babar and Rizwan,” Fakhar said during a press conference. “ […] but giving rest to them may help with preparing a back-up.“

The New Zealand series will mark the commencement of Pakistan’s build-up towards this year’s T20 World Cup, which is set to be held in the United States and the West Indies in June. The national side is scheduled to play a host of T20 matches before the showpiece.

“.. in the 15-20 matches before the World Cup we should give testing new players a chance, so that no new player has to play directly [in the World Cup],” said the flamboyant batter.

Fakhar said he was happy to play at number four for Pakistan, and that not playing as an opener, despite being established in the slot in domestic and franchise T20s and One-day Internationals, was “not a sacrifice” for him.

“The management and the captain want me to play lower down the order, which means they believe I can win matches from that position,” he said. “This is the national team and a lot of players want an opportunity. I feel lucky that I’m still in the team even though I don’t have a place as an opener.”

The T20Is against New Zealand will be pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi’s first assignment as the Pakistan captain in the format. The left-armer has won two Pakistan Super League (PSL) titles in a row for Lahore Qalandars.

Fakhar, Shaheen’s Qalandars team-mate, said the bowler had proved his mettle as the leader in the franchise scene and that he expected him to emulate his aggressive approach in the international arena as well.

“I’ve seen Shaheen groom himself as captain,” he said. “He proved a lot of people including myself wrong that he is not good enough as a captain.

“There’s a difference between leading a franchise and the Pakistan team, but he has great leadership qualities.”

Both Pakistan and New Zealand will be almost full strength through the course of the five matches, the last of which will be played on Jan. 21. Fakhar believed that it would bring competitiveness into the series, especially with the T20 World Cup on the horizon.“.. we are facing their main strength bowling for the first time,“ the Mardan-born southpaw said of New Zealand. “And we want that because this is the year of the World Cup, so we want to play against strong teams.

“… the big guns like Lockie Ferguson, Kane Williamson, they’re really good players, and we are looking forward to playing against them.”
