Dubai, UAE – 14 March 2024| Continuing its longstanding tradition of nurturing talented and ambitious designers from across the region, Van Cleef & Arpels in partnership with Tashkeel has announced the open call for the landmark tenth edition of the Middle East Emergent Designer Prize with the theme, “Inspiring Winds.”

The open call goes live on 15 March, with a deadline to respond before 21 April 2024 at 10PM GST.

Symbolising strength as well as compassion, wind represents freedom and enchantment. Ranging from charming light breezes to imposing hurricanes and tornadoes, wind possesses specific resonance in desert lands, where languages and dialects have numerous terms for the myriad movements of air across both sea and sand.

From naseem and harmattan to khamsin, sumoom and shamal, these currents of air form part of the cultural heritage of communities that are rooted as much on the waves as they are on the dunes.

Van Cleef & Arpels and Tashkeel are inviting applicants to create a work of contemporary functional design that responds to the theme of “Inspiring Winds.” Submitted proposals should incorporate creativity and innovation in enforcing the aspect of form and function.

Winners will be announced at a major exhibition celebrating ten years of the Van Cleef & Arpels
Middle East Emergent Designer Prize later in 2024. The winning designer will receive AED 30,000 to produce her or his design during a 12-week period, with the final design piece to be showcased at a special ceremony upon completion.

Alessandro Maffi, President of Van Cleef & Arpels Middle East & India said:
“Van Cleef & Arpels is extremely proud to announce the landmark tenth edition of the Van Cleef & Arpels Middle East Emergent Designer Prize. The Maison’s partnership with Tashkeel has provided emerging artists in the Middle East with the essential support that designers and innovators need to become successful professionals. As one of the region’s longest running prizes, the Emergent Designer Prize has set the benchmark for nurturing design talent by shedding light on the wealth of creativity thriving across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman and Kuwait. We look forward to receiving innovative and visionary submissions for this year’s theme of “Inspiring Winds”.

Karam Hoar, Marketing & Communications Manager at Tashkeel, said: “Since 2013, Tashkeel and Van Cleef & Arpels have organised this competition to nurture and promote emerging talent. Year after year, we see the extraordinary wealth of creativity and depth of talent at work across this region. This tenth edition will be a celebration of the success of so many of the creative professionals who have taken part, as well as an important showcase for a new emerging talent. We are delighted to partner with Van Cleef & Arpels once again to bring exciting upcoming designers to the world’s attention.”

The Prize encourages a sustainable approach to design proposals, including the sourcing of materials locally and ethically, whether reused, recycled or recreated with a minimal carbon footprint. Submissions in the form of jewellery and/or watch design are not accepted. The call is open to all artists and designers living in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar, and submissions must be original and entirely the work of the applicant.

The winner will be awarded a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to Paris for a 5-day trip to L’ECOLE Van Cleef & Arpels, a school dedicated to accentuating the methods behind the world of jewellery creation and watchmaking. In addition, a total of AED 30,000 will be awarded to the winner to cover the cost of materials and production of their design piece.

Applicants can find details on how to enter on Tashkeel’s website, tashkeel.org, and there will be also a bilingual presentation on the Tashkeel YouTube Channel later in March.

Dubai, UAE: Procter & Gamble (P&G) relaunches its highly successful Children's Safe Drinking Water (CSDW) campaign in the UAE and Gulf region, this Ramadan, by collaborating with key retailers across the region to step up as a Force for Good, to accelerate efforts to help provide access to clean drinking water to people in need. The global outreach program, P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water, aims to transform the lives of communities around the world by providing 25 billion litres of clean drinking water by 2025, and forms part of P&G’s wider efforts to support goal six of the UN Sustainable Development Goals on clean water and sanitation.

This year, P&G is partnering with the International Medical Corps NGO, by donating USD $100,000 to support in deploying resources to provide clean drinking water to children and families in countries including Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, and Nigeria. The campaign will kick off on World Water Day to further highlight the importance of clean water access worldwide.

ElMehdi Chad, Vice President, UAE and Levant, at P&G said: "Access to clean water is a fundamental human right, yet almost one billion people worldwide face the harsh reality of water scarcity every day. At P&G, we remain steadfast in our commitment to fostering positive change in communities in need. Our primary objective is to raise awareness about the critical issue of clean water scarcity and extend the reach of P&G’s Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program, which has been transforming lives for nearly 15 years. By collaborating with our partners and retailers, and combining our resources and expertise, we aim to provide access to clean drinking water and positively impact the health and well-being of children and families most in need.”

The campaign will run from March 20th to April 8th, 2024 in the UAE, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar, across major supermarkets, where P&G will donate the equivalent of one day of clean water for every purchase of P&G brands such as Always, Head & Shoulders, Crest, Ariel, Pampers and more.

When it comes to the effectiveness of providing clean water, P&G utilizes water purification packets that have a transformative effect. Clean drinking water is made possible through the P&G Purifier of Water packets invented by P&G laundry scientists. Ten liters of dirty water can be transformed using just one P&G Purifier of Water packet, a bucket, a spoon and a cloth in 30 minutes.

P&G’s Children's Safe Drinking Water Program has been working with NGOs around the world to provide clean drinking water to people in developing countries since 2004. Through collaboration between P&G scientists and experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the program has already provided billions of liters of clean water and P&G’s goal is to provide 25 billion liters of clean water by 2025.

Dubai, UAE:  With her eyes firmly on the future and preparations underway to start a new  chapter in her career, World No11 Maria Sakkari embraced the unknown ahead of this week’s Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships – by exploring the Emirate’s AYA Universe, a futuristic exhibition that transports visitors from reality to dreamland.

Sakkari, who announced last week she is splitting from coach Tom Hill after six years that included two Grand Slam semi-finals and a career-best ranking of World No2, took time-out from training for her second-round tie with American Emma Navarro by immersing herself in the distinctive lights, sounds and mirrors of AYA.

Encountering an otherworldly experience, Sakkari embarked on a journey to a 'Beautiful Universe' as Greece’s top-ranked female explored the 12 zones of AYA, from uncovering the perfect blend of light and movement in the Harmonia Zone to venturing into the mystical garden at Flora and entering Luna’s infinite mirror chamber.

Reflecting on her experience, the 28-year-old said: “It was amazing. It was something very different than any other activity I've done on the Tour. An experience that I would definitely do again; it just relaxes you, disconnects you, and recharges you. I really liked it, and as I said, I would come back for sure.”

Eyeing up what lies ahead, Sakkari, the No8 seed in Dubai and thus recipient of a first-round bye, will face World No23 Navarro in the Round of 32 on Tuesday determined to break a three-match losing streak. The Emirate’s WTA 1000 event, at which Sakkari has competed four times but yet to progress past the second round, offers the perfect opportunity to get this latest chapter of her career off to a flyer.

Sakkari has two WTA singles titles to her name, including a victory last year in Guadalajara. She has faced Navarro just once previously, losing in three sets in San Diego.

About ARTE MUSEUM
ARTE MUSEUM is an immersive media art exhibition space by d'strict, a renowned digital design company that introduced the world's first 4D ART PARK, 'LIVE PARK,' in 2011. Based on the know-how and capabilities accumulated over many years, ARTE MUSEUM was created under the theme of 'ETERNAL NATURE' with works that reinterpret the theme and space of nature. Breathtaking visuals, sensuous sounds, and elegant scents of the works unfolding in the exhibition space provide a spectacularly immersive experience.

The combination of visual creativity and various media technologies, such as projection mapping, multi-image control, and sensor-based interaction system, provides an experience full of ingenuity and delight, the uncanny and the familiar. It is a new form of art space where the space itself becomes a work of art. And the audience's presence—the moments when the visitors enjoy the exhibition that recreates the physical properties of reality in an unrealistic space—is part of it.

At ARTE MUSEUM, you can stand still to appreciate the work or take a picture with the work in the background. Closer interaction with the artwork allows you to dip your toes in the virtual water on the beach, become one with nature with the sand waterfall, or go up to an observatory to enjoy the view from above. With this new type of audience-led spectatorship, ARTE MUSEUM has become a memorable photo spot for many, and a space of mindfulness for others.

ARTE MUSEUM aims to popularize high-quality visual art through works of art based on media technology that reinterpret nature without the constraints of time and space; these works are also non-verbal that everyone can appreciate regardless of age, gender, nationality, or language.

First opened in Jeju in 2020, ARTE MUSEUM currently operates six locations globally, including three in South Korea (Jeju (2020–present), Yeosu (2021–present), Gangneung (2021–present)), and three internationally (ARTE M, a special showcase in Hong Kong (2022–present), Chengdu, China (2023–present), and Las Vegas (2023–present)). To date, ARTE MUSEUMs worldwide have cumulatively attracted over 6.2 million visitors. Following the opening of the ARTE MUSEUM DUBAI, d‘strict will continue its plan to open ARTE MUSEUM in approximately 20 major cities around the world by 2026, including Busan, Korea later this year, as well as New York City and Los Angeles, USA, in 2025.

KUWAIT: National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) and LOYAC concluded four environmental local trips to Sulaibiya and Al Wafra. The four trips go with the UNSDGs goal 15 life on land and in line with NBK’s Strategy focusing on integrating the UN SDGs into its social programs. In addition to an intensive two weeks of internship of daily learning and application in permaculture at different locations in Kuwait. NBK’s support to LOYAC’s trips comes as part of the bank’s strategic partnership with the organization.

74 volunteers from different backgrounds aged between 14 and 28 participated in these trips which were designed to introduce regenerative farming principles, explore techniques for maintaining healthy soil; practice cover cropping & mulching techniques; demonstrating composting; introducing crop rotation; creating Swales & learning about keyline designs; in addition to the importance of companion planting.

This support reflects NBK’s commitment to its social responsibility as well as the vital role it plays in supporting students, youths and self-building initiatives in Kuwait. “Sulaibiya and Al Wafra field trips were truly an inspiring environmental learning experience that added profound value to the young people involved”, said Joanne Al-Abduljaleel, NBK Public Relations Manager. “This is not the first-time we go with Loyacers in field trips. We were happy to join Loyacers in lots of inspiring cultural trips around Asia and Africa.

This time , we had the chance to know better our local farms and actively participate in sustainable agriculture and permaculture activities, including planting, maintaining farms and greenhouses, and applying permaculture principles”. “NBK always strives to empower Kuwaiti youth to realize their potentials, build their personalities and motivates their ambition. These agricultural trips with LOYAC comes in line with our strategy to invest in our society,” Al-Abduljaleel added.

Throughout the program, Loyacers had practical training in agriculture with the aim of achieving advanced skills in the field that will allow the trainee to find job opportunities in existing and expected agricultural initiatives and projects. LOYAC is a nonprofit organization that runs several programs for the youth to develop their professional skills, enhance their personal growth and help them find their sense of purpose by extending themselves to others.
